A Double Dose of Ballet

Guilherme Duarte de Menezes & Vitor Duarte de Menezes via Ballet.co

Whenever I can, I follow  the Prix de Lausanne performances. Last year, our dearest Mayara Magri won the competition. Beyond that, the Brazilian twins Guilherme and Vitor Duarte de Menezes also caught my attention.  The brothers were finalists in the competition but they did not receive the final prize. Since I started to follow the boys’ development, the more I  watch them, the more I get carried away.

Classical Variation : La Sylphide, variation de James (Hermann Lovenskjold – Auguste Bournonville)

Contemporary Variation : Commedia (Igor Stravinsky – Christopher Wheeldon)

After the end of the competition, and Vitor and Guilherme received a scholarship at the English National Ballet in London, where they remained until the end of their schooling. Last year, the boys showed plenty of technique, grace and charisma at the Summer performance of the English National Ballet School. This summer, Vitor and Guilherme performed Kenneth Macmillan’s variation Solitaire  in the English National Ballet School “showcase”.

The Fairy Doll/ TMSP 2011

After being contracted by the English National Ballet, they came to Brazil to take part in the Festival de Dança – Golden Stars XXX ENDA where they presented the Fairy Doll variation with the dance group Habeas Corpus. The event took place in July 2011 at the Theatro Municipal de São Paulo, and was organised by SINDDANÇA, the trade union for dancers, with the aim of giving young dancers the opportunity to show their new works before a specialist audience .

After all that, I can only wish the brothers much success for the future and that they continue delight us with their incredible jumps and turns.

Classical Variation : Le Corsaire (Adolphe Adam – Joseph Mazilier)

Contemporary Variation : Captain Alving (Dave Maric – Cathy Marston)
